Maytag Front Load Washer with Fresh Hold® Option and PowerWash® System - 4.5 cu. ft.

I bought this machine less than 2 years ago, and have noticed a disgusting mold forming on several areas of the rubber seal, because water just sits there after the wash is done. I have small children and now am contemplating having to purchase a new machine because this is so gross and toxic to our health. Very disappointing for such an expensive machine. Extremely frustrated.

I've been running it for a few months and it seems to work fine. I'm not thrilled with the dial a feature. For some reason it just feels more rigid in its selections. However cleans well does the job and I'm satisfied so far.

I purchased a Maytag (MHW5500FC) front load washer and dryer 2 years ago. I gave the product a high rating at the time. I’m writing a new review to reflect current experience. I feel an expensive washer like this unit should last more than two years. I use it once a week, not every day. I feel the Maytag commercials and warranty are very deceptive. Why? The commercials and warranty suggest a long-lasting quality product. I would expect 5-year minimum life, but for $1,300 and 2 years of usage, you can buy a cheaper $650 unit every year or $300 model every 6 months. It’s probably more economical to send everything to the cleaners or laundry service. This unit was selected based on Consumer Reports high rating. Consumer reports should go back and find out what percentage of customers have unit failures in the 2-5 years. I would like to find out how many other customers experience expensive repairs within the first 5 years of ownership. If Maytag feels the quality is so good, the 10 year limited parts warranty should be on all components, not just replacement of the motor and tub. Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend a Maytag front load washer. Consumer Reports: I'm planning to write a letter to the executives at consumer reports asking for a follow-up survey of customer who purchased similar high rated Maytag front load washers and how long before the units failed. Maytag is owned by Whirlpool. I hope this review helps those of you planning to purchase a front load washer. Personally, I recommend considering a simply top load washer since my previous Kenmore Top load washer lasted 20 years.

Got it 2 weeks ago. Was able to wash pillows and sleeping bags. No dancing across the floor or banging noises because of out of balance. I'm a happy woman.

I USUALLY DO SHORT OR SMALL LOADS OFTEN RATHER THAN BIG LOADS ONCE A WEEK AND THE WASHER HANDLES THE SMALLER LOADS WITH ROOM TO SPARE AND PLENTY OF ROOM TO RINSE AND SPIN CLEANLY.
